The highest level is C.
Condition Category | Gas Classification | Representative gases | Minimum Ignition Spark Energy |
---|---|---|---|
Under The Mine | I | Methane | 0.280mJ |
Factories Outside The Mine | IIA | Propane | 0.180mJ |
IIB | Ethylene | 0.060mJ | |
IIC | Hydrogen | 0.019mJ |
Explosion-proof classifications are categorized into three levels: IIA, IIB, and IIC. The IIC level ranks above IIB and IIA and typically carries a higher price tag.
Many customers are uncertain about which explosion-proof rating to select. Essentially, explosion-proof ratings correlate with the specific flammable and explosive gas mixtures encountered in the environment. For instance, hydrogen corresponds to an IIC rating. Carbon monoxide corresponds to an IIA rating; therefore, the applicable explosion-proof control box should also be IIA, though IIB is frequently used in its place.
